The University of Peshawar is all set to start Master’s Degree Programme in the newly established Department of Criminology and Tourism & Hotel Management from this academic session. The much awaited decision was reached after approval  of the statutes for the said departments in  meeting of the academic council of the University of Peshawar with Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan in chair.

The council was of the joint decision that courses for master degree programme of the new departments have already been approved and admission should start from this month immediately after announcement of the UoP BA, B. Sc result expected on the 15th September 2014.

The council also approved statutes for the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies where after it was unanimously agreed to start postgraduate diploma courses for professionals in the first instance from the coming month.

The academic council also gave approval of courses of various departments and other affiliated colleges of the varsity.

Addressing the meeting the Vice Chancellor said that bringing constant changes in line with the industry demand was need of time and the faculty members must live up to the expectation of the market and bring improvement in the curricula over time.

The Vice Chancellor said that the practical application of the knowledge should be kept on priority while designing courses whereas the teaching methods must be made easier for the students especially at the BS and Masters level programmes.

Dr. Jan termed the start of Masters programme in the Criminology and Tourism& Hotel Management as a milestone steps taken by the council adding that the same would produce best professionals of the respective fields.

The meeting was attended by the Deans of faculties, Chairmen of the Departments and other members of the council.
