University of Newcastle, Australia Commonwealth Government scholarships 2016
At UON we offer an extensive range of scholarships to PhD and Research Masters candidates.
Historically over 70% of eligible domestic applicants receive a scholarship and 90% of international students hold a scholarship from UON or a sponsor.
There is one main scholarship round each year where scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Other scholarships may become available throughout the year.
Full-time research students are eligible to apply for University and Commonwealth Government scholarships, which are awarded during one main round offer. They provide a living allowance so you can commit to full-time study.
Scholarships are granted on the basis of academic merit, which includes your undergraduate grade point average and extra research attainments.

PhD scholarships are for three years and Masters scholarships are for two years, less any tenure already completed towards a research degree.
For domestic students – up to three of the highest ranked domestic applicants will receive a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for Outstanding Candidates. If you are awarded this scholarship, you receive an additional $10,000 per annum on top of the living allowance.
